Influenced by the classical minimalism of Arvo Pärt and the dub poetry of Linton Kwesi Johnson, "The Family of Things" takes its title from the final line of the Mary Oliver poem, "Wild Geese."

"Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things."

It's a song about the ebb and flow of belonging.
