Hold me
After all I am your child
Scold me
For I’ve let you grow unwild
Fallen hard for hopeless dreams writ grand
Turned my back against the sun
To the kingdom in my hand
I can’t hear the leaves
Or see them drift towards the earth
Etruscan light is lost on me
As tho’ it had no worth
Winter take me now – (woah!)
Winter take me now, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Yeah!
Light breaks through
In a wave so glorious
As it shoots in joy beneath my feet
Light breaks through,
In a wave so glorious
As it shoots in joy beneath my feet
Hold me
After all I am your child
Scold me
For I’ve let you grow unwild
Fallen hard for hopeless dreams writ grand
Turned my back against the sun
To the kingdom in my hand
I can’t hear the leaves
Or see them drift towards the earth
Etruscan light is lost on me
As tho’ it had no worth
Winter take me now – (woah!)
Winter take me now, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Yeah!
Light breaks through
In a wave so glorious
As it shoots in joy beneath my feet
Light breaks through,
In a wave so glorious
As it shoots in joy beneath my feet
I’m made electric
By this joy beneath my feet
This is my one home
It’s my past and future suite
You’ll draw me back into your soil
One day, I know
But til then I’ll dance
I won’t reap what you have sown
I feel the joy beneath my feet
I started reading about the Etruscans in one of DH Lawrence’s Italian travel diaries. They came before the Romans and were a natural, uninhibited people in tune with and respectful of the cycles of nature and of birth and death.
"Etruscan Sun" is about how nature restores us to a state of grace but how easily we are duped into thinking happiness is in accumulation of technologies - often at the expense of the planet which is our true home, our "past and future suite."
